What Are Same-Day Crowns and How Do They Work?
A dental crown is a custom-fitted cap placed over a damaged, decayed, or weakened tooth to restore its shape, strength, and function. Traditional crowns required two separate appointments and a temporary restoration in between. Same-day crowns change that entirely. Using in-office CAD/CAM technology (computer-aided design and milling), your crown is designed and fabricated chairside during a single visit. The result is a permanent, precisely fitted restoration without the wait.
Our CEREC milling system at The Dome Dentistry & Implants takes the process from digital scan to finished crown without sending anything to an outside lab. Patients throughout Mountain Home and the surrounding area can have a tooth fully restored in one appointment, using ceramic or zirconia blocks that are milled, stained, and glazed to match the natural color and contour of your smile.

Exam and Tooth Preparation
We start by thoroughly examining the tooth and removing any decay or damaged structure. The area is numbed so you feel comfortable throughout. Once the tooth is shaped to receive the crown, we have a clean foundation to work from. You'll feel pressure but no pain, and we'll check in with you throughout.
Digital Scan
Instead of traditional impressions with putty, we use our Shining 3D intraoral scanner to capture a precise digital image of your prepared tooth and surrounding teeth. The scan is quick, comfortable, and far more accurate than a physical mold. You'll see the 3D image of your tooth on screen in real time.
Crown Design
Your crown is designed digitally using CEREC software, allowing us to match the shape, size, and bite to your existing teeth with precision. This step ensures the fit is right before a single block of material is touched. We can fine-tune the design before milling begins.
Crown Milling and Finishing
Your crown is milled directly from a ceramic or zirconia block in our in-office CEREC unit, typically in about 10-15 minutes. Once milled, it is stained and glazed to match the natural shade of your teeth before final preparation for placement.
Placement and Final Check
The finished crown is placed, adjusted for your bite, and bonded securely to your tooth. We check your comfort and bite carefully before you leave. Most patients walk out the same day with a fully restored tooth that feels natural from the start.

What to Expect After Your Crown Appointment
First 24-48 Hours
Some mild sensitivity and tenderness around the treated tooth and gums is normal in the first day or two. This typically fades quickly. Softer foods are recommended for the first 24 hours while the area settles. Most patients manage any minor discomfort easily with over-the-counter pain relief.
First Week
Sensitivity to temperature may continue for a few days as your tooth adjusts to the new crown. This is a normal part of healing and usually resolves on its own. If your bite feels slightly off or the crown feels high when you close your teeth together, a brief follow-up adjustment can resolve that quickly.
